Behind the Scenes
with Desirée
Design has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember—whether it was obsessing over the perfect font for a school project or rearranging my childhood bedroom until every colour felt just right. But the moment I knew design was my true calling? Sitting in a movie theatre, completely distracted by a VIP menu while everyone else was picking snacks. I was fixated on the typography. I turned to the person next to me and said, “This. This is what I want to do.”
Two days later, I enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Design program at LaSalle College, where I spent the next four years honing my craft and graduated with honours.
Since then, I’ve worked as a graphic designer across a range of industries—from creating visual identity and marketing design for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2019–2022), to building my career in the film and television industry as a graphic designer and art director. Film has become a space where I really come alive creatively, especially when it comes to storytelling and building visuals that support entire worlds on screen.
Today, I continue to work in both design and film, collaborating on projects that span branding, screen graphics, and creative direction. At the heart of it all, I’m drawn to work that tells a story, feels intentional, and leaves a lasting impression.
And at home, my most important role is still the same—wife and mama to two wild little kids who keep life just as creative (and unpredictable) as my work.
